MIFCO Head Fired After Urging “Vote For Change” The managing director of Maldives Fisheries Industrial Company Ltd (MIFCO) was fired 12 hours after he publicly endorsed voting for “change” on Tuesday. At a press conference on Monday, then MIFCO managing director Adhil Saleem said, “For fishermen to benefit in this industry, the best solution is to vote for change,” adding he was “confident I will not be fired” as a result of the statement. But a little after midnight on Monday, Adhil was dismissed from the board of directors by the President’s Office. A new board was appointed by President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom late Monday night, whilst Adhil arrived at work Tuesday morning to find a new managing director had already taken his place.
