VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 27 SEPTEMBER

The Elections Commission has now extended the deadline for registration of those voting outside their home islands to the end of Saturday 27 September. Forms will be accepted from 10:00 to 4:00 and 9:00 pm to 11:30 pm every day. See below for further details. The Elections Commission has issued the following notice: The Elections Commission have decided that people must register with them if they will be outside the island where they were born on the day of elections. Those people from other islands residing in Malé should register as well. Also those residing abroad, in Colombo (Sri Lanka), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Singapore, cannot vote without registering. People can only vote in the place where they registered. Registration forms will be available at the Elections Commission, district offices, atoll offices and island offices. They can also be downloaded at the elections commission website. Registration forms should be submitted to the atoll and island offices and to the voting headquarters (in the former Nassandhura Palace building in Malé). Forms can be faxed to 330 0557 or be emailed to reg@elections.gov.mv. The voter’s identity card, passport, driver’s license or a copy of one of these should be sent along with the forms.
