Selebi Resigns as Interpol Chief.

Jackie Selebi , South Africa's Police Chief, has resigned as President of Interpol to fight corruption allegations in his home country. The World Police Organization describes Selibi's step down as " in the best of interests of Interpol and out of respect for the global law enforcemnt community that it serves ". Selebi drew public criticism last year for his friendship with a convicted drug smuggler.

He has served as President of Interpol from 2004 till 12th January 2008, South Africa's representative in the United Nations, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of the U.N 54th session, Chairman of the land mine Conference ,Oslo.
